Mount Everest rises higher than before at 8,848.86 meters

Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, has risen nearly three feet higher and now stands at 8,848.86 meters.

This is equivalent to 29,031.69 feet above sea level according to the latest survey results conducted by the Survey Department of Nepal and Chinese authorities that started in 2017.

“We can be confident that this is the most accurate height of Everest that we have ever had. It was a huge responsibility on our part. It is a moment of great pride for us,” said Susheel Dangol, Nepal’s chief survey officer, who led the project.

The newly-announced elevation forms part of the ongoing study of the geographic community that analyzes how the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake back in 2015 affected the entire region.

Geologists state that the exact height of Mount Everest depends on two factors. Shifting tectonic plates pushes the mountain’s height to rise slightly upward every year, which occasional earthquakes cause it to sink lower.
