A 29-year-old GCC national has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance after his attempt to escape from his arrest by intentionally running over a police officer.
The anti-narcotics team of the Dubai Police stated that they received a tip that the ‘drug addict’ was staying at a hotel and when they attempted to arrest the man, he ‘intentionally’ tried to run over one of the police officers. He was also accused of damaging public property.
“Our information was that he was with another suspect. They used drugs and possessed a quantity to peddle among others for money. We went to the hotel with a public prosecution warrant,” said a Dubai Police anti-narcotics lieutenant as per reports from Khaleej Times.

He added that they spotted the defendant together with another suspect in a 4WD. Reports state that the defendant tried to drive away when the lieutenant was standing next to his vehicle, holding on to the front door.
The man then intentionally hit the police vehicle in his attempt to flee from authorities.
“We believe that he had drugs in his car at the time so he did not want to get caught. We alerted the operations room and a warrant was issued to take the necessary legal action,” said the lieutenant.
The ‘drug addict’ currently remains in detention pending his trial that was adjourned to October 5.
