DEVELOPING STORY: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by television network ABS-CBN against the National Telecommunications Commission or NTC.
Sources confirm this to CNN Philippines and Rappler.
The high court’s dismissal of ABS-CBN’s franchise-related cases leaves the network without any legal remedy for now.
The NTC has issued a cease and desist order against the network last May 4 after its franchise expired this year.
The network then questioned the NTC’s order and sought the Supreme Court’s temporary restraining order.
In a 70-11 vote on July 10, the House of Representatives Committee on Legislative Franchises denied the application for a legislative franchise of the Lopez-owned broadcast network. Lawmakers cited the network’s alleged violations of the constitution, failure to pay taxes and labor issues.
