A Kuwaiti man who borrowed 2,000 dinars ($6000) from a private lender in the oil-rich Gulf emirate was told two years later to pay pack 9,750 dinars ($32,000).
The debtor told police he borrowed from that man who he did not know because he was in bad need for money.
The man said he was made to sign a document that he must pay back that huge sum but thought the lender was joking.
“When it was time to pay him back, he told me I must pay him 9,750 dinars… I can hardly believe a loan would generate that massive interest in two years,” the man told police, according to Al Anba newspaper.
The paper said police has summoned the lender for interrogation.
