Man accused of forging maid visa application

A 65-year-old man who allegedly forged a visa application for a housemaid is currently on trial, The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.

The defendant reportedly fabricated the document to register the maid under a different person. He was caught after a police officer in the Passport Department contacted the victim’s son for some missing documents.

In a report by The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain, the son then went to the Ministry of Labour to clarify the application, where it was discovered that his father’s fingerprints were forged.

The defendant was said to have hired the services of a clearance company and gave them the necessary documents for the visa application—such as a salary certificate and a marriage certificate.. The company’s owner reportedly didn’t cross-check the authenticity of the papers because the elderly man looked trustworthy.

However, the accused denied the allegations and said he was asked and paid by the owner to forge the fingerprints.

“I am jobless since 2001. I was working with the Ministry of Health but I lost my job. My financial situation is bad and clearance companies were using my fingerprint to falsify documents and I was paid for it,” The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain quoted the defendant as saying.
