Saudi Arabia was recently praised for its decision to allow woman to obtain passports and travel without guardian’s permission, as well as to promote gender equality in the workplace.
In a report by Saudi Gazette, the Kingdom now allows women over 21 to travel abroad without permission of a male guardian, husband, father, or male relatives. The decision was hailed as a call for gender equality.
Saudi Gazette also reported that the kingdom’s Ministry of Labor and Social Development issued a regulation that requires employers to treat males and females equality in terms of wage, and prohibits any other forms of discrimination in the workplace.
The regulation also forbids employers to fire women employees while they are on a maternity leave or if they fall sick due to pregnancy or delivery.
