WATCH: Dubai-based OFW surprises stroke-hit father by disguising himself as hospital staff

OFWs who have the chance to head back home are usually welcomed by their family and friends at the airport. But Ednicol Macalatan, an IT professional working for five years in Dubai, planned a trip to the Philippines to surprise his father who suffered a stroke.

In a video shared on YouTube, Ednicol headed to the Metro Antipolo Hospital, where his father receives therapy treatment regularly.

Ednicol shared to The Filipino Times that the trip took place during the second week of October.

“Sinasabi ko sa parents ko na ‘di ako makakauwi ngayong 2019. Nag alibi ako para mapaniwala sila – nalungkot nga sila na di ako makakauwi,” shared Ednicol.

He first posed as someone who just wanted to share a seat for lunch at his family’s table. But his mother immediately recognized him and gave him the warmest hug! “Nag mask ka pa!,” said his mom who easily saw through Ednicol’s disguise.

Ednicol then posed as a therapist for his own father who’s undergoing treatment to walk normally without assistance again. As he was assisting through the therapy process, his dad caught a glimpse of his son at an unguarded moment.

“Bakit andito ka?” asked his father on the verge of his tears of joy as he thought that Ednicol wouldn’t arrive until next year.

“Gulat ka? Makakalakad ka din,” beamed Ednicol in support of his father’s treatment.
