Congen’s Cup Basketball Tournament kicks off in Dubai

DUBAI: The Congen Cup Basketball Tournament has kicked off with about 10 teams vying for the title.

Consu General Paul Raymund Cortes said the tourney is “the first of a series of events to promote the participation of the Philippines in the Dubai expo 2020.”

“We would like to call on the Filipino sporting community to be a part of this superb event as we showcase our athletic skills in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship,” he said.

Dubbed as the “biggest celebrity basketball event outside the Philippines,” the ConGen’s Cup will bring together best players from each team and face them off in a friendly match with the TV stars from the Philippines in a much-anticipated match on Sept. 20.
The tourney will be held every weekend.

Teams are Pasay City DFA, Power Tech Dagupan City, MPQ Travel & Tourism San Pablo City, Chow King Chao Fan Bacolod City, Chinese Star Restaurant Tacloban City, Alaminos City Pangasinan, Escalante City Hacienderos, MTB Jumeirah Cabanatuan City, Sigma Lamda Phi – Davao City and the Balanga City Risers. Opening ceremonies were held Friday, Aug. 9 at Al Ahli Sports Club in Al Nahda.
