Heart attack, stroke, and cancer remain as the top three killers of Filipinos, according to the latest data from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Health (DOH).
The latest data, reported GMA News, revealed that approximately 1.5 million Filipinos died of heart diseases from 2000 to 2015. It is the top cause of death among Filipino men and the second cause of death among women.
Heart diseases include acute myocardial infarction or heart attack, angina, hypertensive heart diseases and chronic ischemic heart diseases.
In the same year period, more than 940,000 Filipinos died from vascular system diseases or abnormal conditions of arteries and veins. Stroke and aneurysm are categorized as vascular diseases.
Meanwhile, a total of 733,702 Filipinos died of malignant neoplasms, simply known as cancers, from 2000 to 2015.
According to PSA, more Filipino women die from cancer compared to men, and breast cancer is the leading kind of cancer that affects both sexes. However, lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer death in the country as most of the Filipinos diagnosed with lung cancer are already in the late stage.

Other leading causes of deaths are Pneumonia, accidents, Diabetes milletus,Tuberculosis, chronic lower respiratory diseases, digestive system diseases, and diseases of genitourinary system.
PSA data also revealed that around 66 Filipinos die every minute or 1,591 per day.
The data were obtained from death certificates registered at the city and municipal registrars throughout the country.
