10 “Tipid Tips” for OFWs in the UAE

Majority of Filipinos who find themselves in the UAE have one thing in mind: to earn more money. However, the struggle of OFWs is that most of them only spend money without learning how to save. This is why TFT Lifestyle TV’s 4th episode focuses on the money saving tips aka “Tipid tips” for both new and old OFWs to learn from.

Cook at home

While the temptation of just ordering food is there, it would be better to just cook at home as not only does it save you money, you can also get to serve more people with less expenditures.

Take advantage of sales when doing groceries

Save for emergency cases, grocery shops of all sizes in the UAE have their unique promos and sales which can give you the most bang for your buck.

Unli Nol cards

Since majority of OFWs don’t have their own cars, it would be better to just load up an unli Nol card as not only will it give you the option of spending less for transportation, you also wouldn’t have to line up at the long queue at the ticket counters at each end of the day just to get home.

No need for branded items

If you’re planning to buy items for yourself for daily use, you don’t necessarily have to buy branded items all the time.

Mag baon na lang!

Similar to tip #1, it would be best to just cook at home and bring your own food instead of buying prepared meals at your workplace.

Buy only what you need

When visiting malls, don’t get caught in the lure of buying items you don’t really need. It would help to have a shopping list so that you’re only getting what’s really needed.

Flat sharing

Another popular tipid tip for OFWs is to share flats with other OFWs to reduce housing costs.

Visit parks and beaches for free

If you really wish to get on an adventure with your friends while you’re in the UAE, there are several parks, beaches, and places which have free entry.

Buy in bulk

As with tip #2, during sales it would be best to go for those which are sold in bulk but are still on a discounted price so that you don’t have to keep on buying them.

Find the best value for your money

While tip #1 suggest cooking at home, you should also celebrate a bit by dining outside every once in a while – but be sure to find a place where you can eat delicious food at a price that’s just right for your pocket.
