What it takes to be in a long distance relationship

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but it can also make the heart forget. Building a great relationship requires a lot of hard work and the idea of long distance relationship can be very dramatic. It is sad truth, but when your heart says it is worth it, it really is!

There are many reasons why some relationships become long distance. There are students, young professionals with career shifts and even married couples are with this kind of challenge.

Research has shown that there are common psychological problems affecting partners who are in long distance relationships such as insecurity, uncertainty, loneliness, depression and anxiety. It is not easy, but this is part of the things you and your partner will have to overcome.

It is important to assess how grounded in reality your feelings for a person really are. Because in long distance relationship, you are playing with the resource that is impossibly finite, which is your time. Surprisingly, multiple studies comparing long distance relationships to geographically close partners found not that many significant differences between the two.

How much trust you can put into someone you cannot meet on daily basis? Long distance relationships are like a real life test for couples. It shows how much a person loves the other person despite the geographical distance or separation.

Living apart should be recognize for what it really is! It needs trust, commitment, good communication, positive mindset and the right and clear intentions and expectations with your partner about the future. Above all, putting God in the center of your relationship is one of the most beneficial things that you can do.
