Pacquiao wants to change the name of MMFF to Philippine Film Festival

Senator Manny Pacquiao has filed a bill seeking to change the name of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF to a more ‘inclusive’ one.

In his Senate Bill No.2017, Pacquiao lamented that “the event’s name depicts exclusivity.”

The “Metro Manila” in the Metro Manila Film Festival conveys exclusiveness of the illustrious tradition and celebration of local film production to the country’s capital.

“In order to fully recognize the local movie industry’s goal of over-all developmental effort for the country, it is but suitable to rename the Metro Manila Film Festival into an inclusive “Philippine Film Festival,” Pacquiao said in his bill.

The MMFF was founded in 1975 organized by the MMDA to promote the local film industry.

The annual event also became a tradition for most Filipinos since it’s taking place on Christmas day.

It’s unclear though on why Pacquiao suddenly proposed the bill on changing the name of the MMFF. (TDT)
