The NUJP launched the petition on January 17, 2020, to gather one million signs to support the congressional franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Corporation.
The said post received mixed reactions from netizens:
Some netizens expressed their disagreement with Salonga’s statement while others applaud and agreed with her decision to support the network.
One netizen hoped that the conflict will end in a win-win situation.
Salonga has been a part of ABS-CBN programs such as The Voice of the Philippines and ASAP Natin ‘To.
Meanwhile, she received support from her brother Gerald Salonga who serves as musical director of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly vowed to block the media giant’s franchise renewal over issues regarding the non-airing of his political advertisements last 2016 elections.
