If you ever wake up one morning and feel that a part of your face is not moving, you better seek medical attention.
You may remember some scenes on a TV series where actress Angelu de Leon’s face looks odd because her left eye is no longer parallel to her right eye.
At one look, you may think that she might have suffered a stroke. However, Angelu admitted that she had Bell’s Palsy or the temporary weakness of your facial muscles.
Medical researches and studies have not yet really determined the cause of this condition but most claim that it’s somehow a reaction of a viral infection.
Angelu suffered two Bell’s Palsy attack. The first one was in 2009 when she was having breakfast and spurted the water she was drinking.
She felt that the right side of her face was getting heavier. After two weeks, she was able to recover.
The second attack happened recently in 2016 after her family’s vacation in Europe. Her left eye suddenly shut.
Angelu, in a recent interview with GMA’s Pinoy MD show, said she suspected being tired, being exposed to cold weather and her weak immune system may have been the cause of her condition.
With proper medication, Angelu said she was able to recover from this condition.
According to medical experts among the symptoms of Bell’s Palsy include:
You’re unable to close your eyelid or blink
Your eye waters more or less than usual
Drooling
Difficulty chewing
Decreased sense of taste
Your facial muscles twitch
Pain or numbness behind your ear
