Vilma Santos mourns Eddie Garcia’s death

Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos paid tribute to veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who directed her box office films in the 1980s.

In an interview with DZMM, the veteran actress and Batangas Representative shared her experiences with Garcia both as a co-star and as a director.

Santos said she was 11 years old when she first worked with Garcia in the 1969 film “Pinagbuklod ng Langit,” which was about the life of the Marcos family in Malacanang. Garcia was the director of the classic film.

Garcia also directed Santos’ box office 1980s movies “Imortal”, “Sinasamba Kita” and “Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig.” They were also together in the 1975 film “Tag-ulan sa Tag-araw.”

Santos bared that Garcia was a perfectionist director and a very charming leading man.

“When you speak of professionalism in showbiz, that is Eddie Garcia,” the Star for All Seasons said.

“Hanggang huling hininga niya, nagsho-shooting siya (He was acting until his last breath),” she added.

In an Instagram post, Santos shared an old photo of her with Garcia in the set of the classic film “Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan Ang Nakaraan.”

“I will miss you, Tito Ed. Karangalan ko na makasama ka bilang isang aktor at director (It is my honor to work with you as an actor and director),” Santos wrote.

“Maraming salamat sa lahat (thank you for everything). I love you, Tito Ed…Our condolences,” she added.

Garcia suffered from neck fracture while on the set of a new television series of GMA Network. He died on Thursday at age 90.
