Actor Richard Yap, who became a household name in 2012 after starring in the hit ABS CBN’s series “Be Careful with My Heart” as “Sir Chief”, conceded the race for Cebu City representative on Tuesday after the initial results were released.
Based on the partial and unofficial results as of 7:00 AM (PH time), Yap (PDP-Laban) was behind reelectionist Raul del Mar (LP), who was seeking a third and final term as representative of the 1st district of Cebu City.
Del Mar garnered 134,816 votes, while Yap received only 81,167.
The 51-year-old actor and entrepreneur took to Facebook to express his disappointment over the results.
“I am just sad that I was not given the chance to make my plans and dreams for Cebu a reality,” he wrote.
He added: “My hope is that you have at least known me even for a short period of time that I have made my life public because of my wish to serve the Cebuanos.
“Our fight for the city doesn’t end here. Let us continue to stand in our principles and our unwavering support to transform Cebu as a city we can be more proud of.”
Yap is not the only celebrity who lost their respective bids in the midterm election. Edu Manzano and ER Ejercito were also not victorious in their race at the local level.
