Alyssa Quijano, the ex-girlfriend of singer Jake Zyrus, was among the auditionees of ABS-CBN’s newest singing competition “Idol Philippines”.
During her audition, Quijano revealed that she had to put her showbiz dreams on hold when she was in a relationship with Zyrus.
“Marami akong na-sacrifice sa relationship namin kasi I stopped singing. Nawala yung Alyssa na kilala ko,” she said during an interview before her audition.
“I was just giving my all na parang nakalimutan ko na yung sarili ko,” Quijano added.
It can be recalled that Zyrus and Quijano first met during the now-defunct singing competition “X-Factor Philippines” in 2012.
Zyrus was a judge on the said show while Quijano was a contestant.
After the competition aired, they announced their relationship in 2013 and it was even reported that they eloped.
However, they broke up in 2017 but neither of them gave a clear explanation on why they decided to split.
“After the breakup, nung medyo nakaka-move on na ako, I learned a lot from that relationship. Alam ko na ang hirap din ng pinagdaanan niya. And I believe na pareho kaming natuto sa pagkakamali namin,” Quijano said.
She also told the judges of “Idol Philippines” that she has now moved on from her past relationship and that she is back to pursuing her dreams. Quijano is also currently in a new relationship.
During her audition, she sang a rendition of Regine Velasquez’s “Araw Gabi” and she was able to get four “yes” which made her qualify to move onto the next round.
However, after the episode aired, it seemed Raquel Pempengco, Zyrus’ mom, was not happy that the singer’s name got involved in Quijano’s audition.
Pempengco said that Quijano is only using Zyrus for publicity.
“Sana ‘di na sinama pa ang publicity. If she wants to make it on top, avoid using others.
“Just saying, past is past. You can tell other stories and avoid mentioning another person.
“Magaling ka, I know. You can do it on top by your own name,” she said.
As of press time, Zyrus has not yet spoken up about his ex-girlfriend’s audition.
