Is Nadine Lustre the next Darna?

Actress Nadine Lustre has been one of the celebrities highly considered by netizens to take over the role of Darna, and she said that she is open to audition for it.

During the renewal of her contract with ABS-CBN, Lustre said that portraying the well-known Filipina superheroine on the big screen would be a “good opportunity” for her.

“I mean, if it’s meant for me, sa akin po ibibigay. But like what I’ve said before, I know that the project is going to be given to someone who can give justice to the role,” she said.

“It does not have to be me, as long as mabigyan ng justice. I know naman that everyone is going to pitch the right one,” she added.

It can be recalled that actresses Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano were formerly chosen to play the role for the said movie project. However, both of them backed out from portraying Darna due to medical reasons.

Lustre said that she is willing to become Locsin and Soberano’s replacement adding that there is nothing wrong with being the “third choice”.

“I don’t think it’s bad to be a third choice. I mean, you know, pwede rin naming it’s not the right time or it’s not the right project for them, so I don’t think it matters,” Lustre said.

The film’s original director, Eirk Matti, also said that Lustre is his personal choice to be the next Darna.

“After Liza, I only see Nadine Lustre so far as someone who can be Darna. Very sultry. She has a lot of female sensuality and at the same time still looks tough and very Filipina,” Matti said.

Aside from Lustre, several other celebrities, such as Miss Universe winners Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray, and actress Julia Barretto, have also expressed their interest in portraying the said iconic character.

As of press time, Star Cinema has already announced that they are now looking for the new Darna, though they have not yet mentioned any names on who could possibly take the role.
