Indeed stars aligned for Catriona Gray and while everything turned out the way she planned it to be, the Filipina-Australian decided to take a trip down memory lane on the night when it all started — the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 coronation night.
Exactly a year ago today, Gray decided to compete in the said national competition hoping to represent the Philippines in an international pageant once again.
After representing the Philippines in Miss World back in 2016 wherein she finished in the Top 5, Gray said that she felt the pressure of going back to the beauty pageant scene once again.
“Joining Binibining Pilipinas despite my fears, proving all those people who said I couldn’t wrong… I realized that night that those doors that closed on me in the years prior were not denying me but redirecting to something even better than I could ever have dreamed of,” she said.
And she was right as everything fell into place and she bagged the Miss Universe Philippines 2018 crown which enabled her to join, and eventually win, Miss Universe 2018.
“Sometimes the universe has bigger things in store for you. You just need to stay true to yourself, surround yourself with people who believe in you, put the work, and have faith. Forever a Miss Philippines, forever a Binibini,” she said.

Gray became the fourth Filipina Miss Universe after Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
On June 2019, she will pass on the Miss Universe Philippines crown to her successor.
