Miss Universe Vietnam H’hen Niê continues to capture the hearts of pageant fans with her charitable works.
The official social media pages of Miss Universe Vietnam shared that Niê donated her prizes from sponsors worth VND 1 billion or around P2.2 million to charitable causes.
“She’s decided to donate 100% of her prize for social activities. She wants to complete her promise with her village to provide scholarships for poor students and complete her social project ‘Room to Read’ (build more libraries in rural areas, support schoolgirls around the world),” Miss Universe Vietnam wrote on their official Instagram page.
Niê also had her fair share of struggles in life. She is part of an ethnic minority in Vietnam and was forced to get married at the age of 14 as per tribe customs. However, she decided not to follow that and pursue an education instead. She studied finance while working as a nanny to make both ends meet.
She then entered modelling and was able to place 9th in “Vietnam’s Next Top Model”. Niê then tried out pageant and won Miss Universe Vietnam and eventually made history by becoming the first woman from her country to make it into the Top 5 of the Miss Universe pageant.
