Miss Earth Air 2018 from Austria reveals Filipino roots in Wowowin

Miss Earth Austria Melanie Mader was among the four winners of the recently concluded Miss Earth 2018 pageant which was held on Saturday, November 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

But unknown to many, the representative of Austria has a Filipino blood. In fact, she was seen speaking the Filipino language fluently when she guested in GMA7’s variety show Wowowin.

When the Miss Earth candidates guested on Willie Revillame’s noontime game show, Mader was one of the chosen candidates to play the game “Hep Hep Hooray”.

This is also where she revealed that her mother is from the Philippines and that she can speak and understand Filipino.

Mader was crowned Miss Earth-Air 2018 at the said pageant.

During the final question and answer portion, she was asked “Being a millennial, what do you think is the most pressing issue of your generation?”

She answered: “As a millennial, we tend to not pay attention about what’s happening around the world because of all the technologies we’re using, like social media. But we can use social media in a positive way. We millennials can use it to spread awareness on what’s happening in our environment, and if we do that, everybody will be informed on what’s happening, and we can live a better future, not just for us human beings, but for the creatures on Earth. Thank you.”

Mader previously competed in Miss Earth Philippines 2016 wherein she represented the Filipino Community of Vienna, Austria. She was crowned Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2016 during the coronation night of the pageant.

However, she became Miss Philippines Water 2016 after Miss Philippines Earth 2016 Imelda Schweighart and Miss Philippines Air 2016 Kiara Giel Gregorio gave up their respective titles.

Vietnam’s Phuong Khanh Nguyen won the Miss Earth 2018 title, while other winners include Mexico’s Melissa Flores and Colombia’s Veleria Ayos who were Miss Earth-Fire and Miss Earth-Water, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Philippines’ representative Celeste Cortesi finished as a Top 8 finalist.
