Everyone is waiting for Liza Soberano’s reprising of the iconic Filipino superheroine Darna on the big screen. One of them is the actress who took on the same role before–Angel Locsin.
Soberano has been very vocal in the past that she would like to do well in portraying Darna to make Locsin proud of her.
The 20-year-old Kapamilya actress was given the role of Darna in May 2017 after Locsin decided to give it up due to health reasons.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Locsin said that she was touched by Soberano’s words and that she no longer needs to worry about making her proud because she already is.
“I’m already proud [of Liza]. As in sobrang proud ko na sa kanya kasi nung nag-usap kami before, na-mention nga niya na kinakabahan siya. Pero siya kasi talaga ang first choice ko, sinabi ko na sa kanya and alam kong kayang-kaya niya talaga,” she said.
Locsin also shared that worked hard when she portrayed Darna for a television series back in 2005.
Nanood ako and bawat pelikulang napanood ko, may iba-iba silang pinakita, so wala talaga yung Darna na iisa lang for me, kasi bawat artista, binigyan nila ng bagong flavor,” she narrated.
She added that she is sure that the modern remake of Darna starring Soberano will be something to look forward to.
“Itong si Liza is very blessed kasi ang dami pa niyang reference and ang ganda na rin ng technology ngayon, so abangan n’yo. I think magiging sobrang ganda ng Darna na ito,” she said.
Locsin also said that she is proud that people still recognize her as Darna even if it has been years since her television series aired.
