7 iconic duets of Pinoy singers with int’l artists

If there is one thing that the world knows about Filipinos – it is that we are a nation of great and talented singers. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a soulful R&B singer, a powerhouse belter, or everything in between because Filipino singers are sure to impress in their chosen genre.

And because of their singing prowess, it is not surprising to see Filipino singers belting it out with renowned artists from all over the world.

Here are some of the most memorable duets of Filipino artists with international singers:

1. KZ Tandingan and Jessie J

During the finals night of the biggest singing competition in China, “The Singer 2018”, Jessie J invited KZ Tandingan to perform her hit song “Bang Bang” with her and Coco Lee.

Tandingan, who was also a former contender on the said show, performed the rap verse of Nicki Minaj and, with the applause she got, it is safe to say that the audience enjoyed her performance.

Jessie J was eventually hailed as the winner of the entire competition.

2. Regine Velasquez and Alicia Keys

The Asia’s Songbird has a long list of international singers she had a duet with. She has shared the stage with Brian McKnight, Peabo Bryson, Ronan Keating, 98 Degrees, and Mandy Moore, just to name a few.

One of her most recent performances with an international artist was with Alicia Keys when the Grammy-award winning artist visited the country in 2013 for a concert.

The two of them sang Keys’ hit song “If I Ain’t Got You.”

3. Morisette and Jessie J

When Jessie J went to the Philippines in 2014 for her concert, she was interviewed by Morissette who was fresh out of The Voice Philippines and was just starting her singing career.

After their interview, the British pop superstar invited the then-neophyte singer to sing with her onstage and the rest was history.

4. Sarah Geronimo and Howie Dorough

Popstar royalty Sarah Geronimo has a never-ending list of credentials to her name, and one of them is recording a single with one of the members of Backstreet Boys, Howie Dorough.

The two met in 2008 when they recorded the song “I’ll Be There”, a single included in Geronimo’s fifth studio album, “Just Me”.

5. Charice and Celine Dion

It is one of those times when a fan meets her idol. Way before he identified himself as Jake Zyrus, Charice attended one of Celine Dion’s concert in Madison Square Garden as a guest performer where she sang a song dedicated to her mother.

The entire event, from the moment Charice met Dion to the moment they stepped on stage, was shown on Oprah, the same talk show that helped catapult Charice to fame.

Aside from Dion, Charice has also performed with other international artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Lea Michele, and Iyaz.

6. Lea Salonga and Brad Kane

“A Whole New World” from the movie “Aladdin” is probably one of Disney’s most memorable masterpieces. When she lent her singing voice to Princess Jasmine, Lea Salonga belted some parts of the song with American actor Brad Kane.

The duo performed the song on countless events, one of which was during the Academy Awards in 1993 wherein “A Whole New World” won Best Original Song.

In recent years, Salonga and Kane reunited to sing their iconic song on Good Morning America to mark Aladdin’s 23rd anniversary.

7. Sitti and Shane Filan

Shane Filan, lead singer of the famous 90s boy band Westlife, arrived in the Philippines last February 8 to promote his new album “Love Always”.

One of the tracks in his album is his cover of Lady Antebellum’s song “Need You Now”, which he recorded with Filipina bossanova queen Sitti.

Filan performed with Sitti and Sabrina, another Filipina singer, in different malls last February 9 to 11.
