Freddie Aguilar to receive senate recognition for “Anak”

Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has introduced a new resolution that acknowledges singer-composer Freddie Aguilar for his song “Anak”.

The said resolution, known as the Senate resolution 658, recognizes the singer’s “lifetime outstanding contributions to Philippine arts and culture” for composing the song “Anak”, which was released 40 years ago, reported Inquirer.

“Aguilar is the only singer and composer who broke into the western market and gained massive global recognition, bringing pride and honor to our country. His unceasing nationalistic contribution to Philippine music and culture warrants recognition,” Sotto stated in the resolution.

“Anak”, which was first released on March 20, 1978, speaks about Filipino family values, and is considered as Aguilar’s most famous work.

The song became a worldwide hit after being released in 53 countries and translated into 29 different languages. Various singers have also recorded their own versions of the song.

Aside from “Anak,” Aguilar also wrote the songs “Katarungan,” “Pangako,” and “Luzviminda”.
