Kris Aquino posted a blog on Facebook after journalist James Deakin used her as a “shield” when he received negative comments from netizens.
Deakin, an American automotive journalist, found himself in hot water last Sunday after a photo of him with former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos made rounds on social media.
In the said photo, Deakin and Marcos are inside a car with mixed martial artist Brandon Vera and urban planner Jun Palafox.
The photo was taken during the shoot of a video blog that has been posted on Marcos’ official Facebook page.
Netizens quickly reacted by telling Deakin that he should know better than associating himself with the son of a former dictator who placed the Philippines under Martial Law.
In his defense, Deakin posted a statement on his own Facebook page saying he is neither “a BBM defender nor am I a detractor.”
Deakin said his job as a transport journalist and road safety advocate requires him to have conversations with a whole range of people.
In the comment section of the said post, Deakin said that he shares his advocacy with “all sorts of people, including the Aquinos.”
He also said the video that he made with Marcos was not a political endorsement.
Deakin collaborated with Aquino for a video blog on May last year.
The news has reached Aquino as she shared a blog on Facebook, telling Deakin to “wo-man up.”
“We were both hired by Petron to do a webisode for them. NAGTRABAHO TAYO. BINAYARAN TAYO,” Aquino said in her blog post.

“I felt the need to react immediately because “unprofessionalism” is unacceptable to me,” she added after Deakin used her as a “shield” when he got unfavorable reactions.
After the online confrontation, Deakin has reached out to Aquino to say his sorry – an apology that the latter has accepted.
