Much has been said and written about Filipinos being distinct, a class of their own. The Filipino Times searched the net and pored through voluminous copies. Here’s a quick digest. Filipinos are unique because:
- They are the only people who could manage a smile, even throw a joke, in times of calamity, crisis or disaster.
- Pinoys are the only people in Asia who can speak fluent English.
- Mano po? Pinoys bow their heads and kiss the hands of their elders to show respect.
- The Philippines has thousands of islands but not too many Pinoys can swim as per the general population of millions.
- Pinoys have the ingenuity to convert a World War II leftover contraption into a means of inexpensive mass communication, even a major tourist attraction – the jeepney!
- Pinoys, especially the males, point to a person with the lips.
