The Filipina maid in Dubai who suffocated her newborn child to death inside a washroom was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday, November 14.
The Filipina was convicted of premeditated murder before the Dubai Court of First Instance, reported Gulf News.
The conviction was made following the psychiatric tests done to check the Filipina maid’s mental health status which showed that the maid was sane when the incident happened.
In September 2017, the Filipina maid was in her employer’s sister’s home when she excused herself to go the bathroom. The employer’s sister grew worried when the maid has not left the bathroom after two hours.
When the nanny decided to go out of the bathroom, she was carrying a plastic bag before lying down on a chair.
The nanny started bleeding and was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that she gave birth while inside the bathroom.
The police was called to check the employer’s sister’s home where the plastic bag, which contained the dead baby, was retrieved.
Upon further investigation, the baby’s cause of death was suffocation. The Filipina admitted that she pushed a piece of cloth to the baby’s mouth resulting to his eventual death.
Later on, it was also revealed that the Filipina maid’s baby was out of wedlock.
The Filipina maid can still appeal for the conviction until the end of the month.
