The famous and well-loved US kids’ show “Blue’s Clues” will be returning to television and a Filipino-American theater actor was chosen to be its new host.
Joshua dela Cruz will be replacing the show’s original host, Steve Burns, in the series’ reboot which was retitled as “Blue’s Clues & You”.
Nickelodeon first announced that they will be doing a revival of the said kid’s show in March 2018 and many actors have since auditioned to be the show’s host, including WWE wrestler John Cena.
But the part ultimately went to dela Cruz who even got “two thumbs up” from Burns. The original host even said that the Fil-Am actor got what it takes to “fill [his] shoes, and the rugby shirt.””
In an exclusive interview with Huffington Post, dela Cruz said that he has been a fan of the show ever since he was a kid.
“I remember ‘Blue’s Clues’ encapsulated everything that I love: curiosity, the adventure of going to new places, skidooing into a picture, exercising your imagination, being able to sing and dance and be silly, and then to draw on top of that, it was magic,” he said.
Dela Cruz also shared his audition experience in a video uploaded on NickSplat’s Facebook page.
“Blue’s Clues” became a famous TV show in the late 90s and early 2000s which features a puppy named Blue who would give the live action host some clues that will help solve a daily puzzle.
It is one of the most acclaimed children’s shows after earning nine Emmy Awards nominations and a Peabody Award.
Dela Cruz will be the show’s third host after Burns, and Donovan Patton who took on the hosting duties as Joe in 2002.
Prior to bagging the role for “Blue’s Clues & You”, dela Cruz has already appeared in several Broadway productions, including “Disney’s Aladdin”, “David Byrne’s Here Lies Love”, “Encores! Merrily We Roll Along”, and “King & I”.
