The events company embroiled in a social media controversy over racial slurs against Filipinos has claimed the netizen who posted the remarks was not connected with the firm, adding that it will be seeking legal action against the person.
The netizen made the racist remarks in connection with a “help-wanted” announcement the events company has posted for make-up artists.
Speaking to The Filipino Times, Anjali Sharma, managing director at Show Buzz Events Management, said a certain Syed Ali, who allegedly made the racist statements, is not employed by the company.
“We don’t know who he is. We are trying to find this guy,” Sharma said in a phone interview.
“He is misrepresenting the company. He stole our post and is spreading rumors against the company. We are looking at possible legal action against him,” she added.
The Filipino Times has earlier posted the remarks on its Facebook page, taking off from an Omani national, Miha Hilal, who shared it on social media. The TFT post has gone viral with almost 200,000 people reached.
TFT has left a message on Ali’s Facebook page to seek his side but has not gotten a reply.
Sharma said the events company has been working with the Filipino community and at one point last year, helped organized a concert for popular singer, Gary Valenciano – the gig however did not push through due to unforeseen events.
“We are very good to Filipinos. They love their jobs. Whatever stress they have, they still manage to smile. They spread positivity,” Sharma said.
Show Buzz has written a message on its FB page saying, “So, apparently Syed Ali posted the post about makeup artists and then passing racists comments using Show Buzz Events Management’s name.
“Show Buzz Events doesn’t support racism. (We) treat everyone equally and are open to all nationalities. (We) are here to give chance to talented people be it of any age, any caste or any nationality. Everyone is welcome.”
Another Show Buzz post read, “The original post for makeup artists was posted on our page and then stolen… where the admin of the page started posting racists comments. We have already spoken to The Filipino Times and provided them with the necessary proofs.
“Show buzz events doesn’t support racism and is open to all nationalities. We are here to give talented people a chance be it of any race, age, caste, and age.”
