The Abu Dhabi Police is activating more speed cameras to catch drivers violating the speed limit and jumping red light signals.
The cameras will be activated are located in interchanges in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Dhafra regions to also help reduce road accidents.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Al Shehi, Director of the Traffic Engineering and Road Safety office under the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols in Abu Dhabi, said more speed cameras are to be activated after the police gained positive results from the speed cameras installed earlier.
The director said incidents related to jumping red signals dropped by 64 percent and fatalities and serious injuries dropped by 35 percent in the last three years. Traffic violations also went down by 66 percent from the past three years.
The activation of the cameras is part of the third phase of the ADP’s road surveillance system.
