Duterte offers help to Bree Jonson’s family

President Rodrigo Duterte has offered assistance to the family of artist Bree Jonson who was found dead in La Union last week.

“The President, he definitely expressed help. In fact, siya nga ang nag-forward nitong issue na’to dun sa NBI to aid us in investigating kung ano ‘yung nangyari dito sa pagkamatay ni Bree,” lawyer Ma Moreni Salandanan told ABS-CBN News.

The NBI has conducted a second autopsy and a parallel investigation on the death of Jonson.

The Philippine National Police earlier reported that Jonson died due to asphyxia and tested positive for cocaine use.

Her companion, Julian Ongpin, told authorities that Jonson committed suicide.

The artist’s remains have been brought to Davao City.

The lawyer for the Jonson family laments the seemingly double standard on Ongpin’s treatment.

“In a sense, medyo merong double standards dito kasi what happened to my other clients before is very different dito sa nangyayari sa kaso ni Julian at Bree,” she added.

The lawyer added that the Jonson family is determined to know the truth.

“Ang hinahabol ng pamilya ay ang katotohanan lamang. Kasi without the truth, hindi nila makukuha ‘yung closure that they deserve. Kasi as of now, very conflicting ‘yung what we saw on the ground dun sa mga naging reports ng PNP,” the legal counsel added. (TDT)
