COVID-19 norms revised for Dubai schools; quarantine period for close contacts reduced to 7 days

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has reduced the quarantine duration for a close contact to seven days in the COVID-19 guidelines which were revised for educational institutions.

The guidelines will cover universities, schools, nurseries, early childhood centers and centers for special needs in Dubai.

As per the new guidelines, the physical distancing requirement for students is now one metre instead of two while preventive precautions like wearing a face mask and following hand hygiene shall continue.

The authorities have reduced the quarantine duration for close contacts to seven days irrespective of one’s vaccination status while a PCR test was not required at the end of the quarantine period if the person is asymptomatic.

The isolation period for a person who has COVID-19 continues to be 10 days and a clearance certificate required after completion of the isolation period for a positive case will be issued automatically.

The students and staff may return to the educational institution after submitting the certificate.

Director for Health Policies and Standards Department, Health Regulation Sector, Dr Hanan Obaid, said that their aim was to protect the health and well being of students and “staff members while ensuring the continuity of learning to the best possible extent.”

Authorities have said that from October 3, all teaching and learning at Dubai’s private schools will switch to in-person mode only and the students who wish to continue with distance learning must provide a medical certificate issued by the DHA.
