‘Marami na ambisysong politiko’: Kiko Pangilinan not running for higher post in 2022

Liberal Party President and Senator Kiko Pangilinan rejected the idea of running for a higher post in the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Pangilinan told ABS-CBN News that he does not want to add up to a number to ‘ambitious politicians’ seeking to run for the country’s top posts.

“I’m up for reelection, that’s my plan. Ang shortage natin baboy, hindi ambisyosong politiko, Ayoko nang dagdagan, sobra sobra na. May oversupply na ng ambisyosong politiko, ‘wag na nating dagdagan,” Pangilinan said.

The senator was asked if he would be open to running in the vice presidential race.

Pangilinan was among those named in a recent survey where he and Vice President Leni Robredo are being considered as a tandem.

The senator said that the main focus now should be addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We had a hearing in the Senate electoral reforms committee, of the 73 million eligible voters in the country, 58 million are registered. So you have non-registered eligible voters numbering around 16 million, that’s enough to select the president,” he said.

“If we have complaints about what’s happening, we believe that we deserve better, then we should register,” he added.

Pangilinan said that young people should go out there and vote.

“The ages 18 to 29, the youth themselves, almost 10 million did not register in the last elections,” he further said. (TDT)
