A police officer in Dubai saved the life of a European man who tried to commit a suicide just before he was about to succumb to death.
The officer rushed to the European room in Bidaa area after receiving a call from the man’s friend who said that he had just seen an online message by his friend saying he would end his life because of financial problems.
When he arrived in the area, the officer met the villa owner and asked about the European man. He was told that he lives in a single room in the first floor.
When the officer found the door locked, he shouted for the man and heard a muted voice, which indicated the man was not well.
The officer, who recalled that he saw a ladder just outside the villa, rushed out and climbed the ladder to the European’s room balcony.
He managed to get into the room, where he found that the European had tied his belt around his neck so tightly that his face was pale and he could hardly breathe.
“The man was losing his consciousness, but the officer managed to untie the belt in the last moment and this saved the European’s life,” said Brigadier Jamal Al Gallaf.
He said the European was treated in hospital and was then referred to a psychiatrist in Dubai’s police to help him.
“The man said he regretted what he had done and that he should not have surrendered to dark ideas that led him to think about death… he also thanked the police for saving his life,” he added.
