Trans man Jake Zyrus has shared that he does not see the need to use the male toilet.
Responding to a question posed the media during the launch of his new album on Wednesday, she said, “I used to think that way pipilitin ko ‘yung sarili ko to go to the male’s restroom… But the more that I grow older, the more I realized na, not everyone thinks the same.”
He came out as a trans man two years ago. He was previously known as Charice Pempengco.
Zyrus insisted that people need to follow the law.
“Not everyone believes in the beliefs that you believe in. So nagsi-CR ako sa kung saan ako dapat mag-CR. I simply follow the law. I respect the law,” he explained.
The restroom issue became a national concern after trans woman Grecthen Diez was prevented from using a female restroom in a Quezon City mall.
“This is not just about understanding me, understanding the LGBT community. This is both ways,” Zyrus said.
“I am just following the law because it’s what they said, right? Biologically, I am a woman so I follow it,” he added.
