2 ‘spider hunters’ shot dead

Two men in Laguna who were hunting spiders for a derby were shot dead after they were thought to be assets.

The San Pablo police said they were hunting down the suspect on the killing of a junk shop employee Jaymark Espregante and tricycle driver Dave Christian Garcia.

The police said they were able to identify the suspect based on the account of a lone survivor.

The 16-year-old boy witness who was with the victims when they explored into a remote grassland in Barangay San Rafael at dawn on Wednesday.

“According to the witness, his friends went to the field, while he stayed behind to watch their tricycle. He said they normally looked for spiders at dawn because that’s when the fiercest ones come out,” the police told Inquirer.

Street gambling using spiders are popular in provinces.

“It seemed the suspect was high. The teen said he could not make out what the suspect was asking him but he was just forced to say ‘yes’ or else ge would shoot him,” the police added.

The suspect followed the victims’ trail before shooting them down. The police found their body on a creek with bullet wounds.
