LOOK: Lucy Torres-Gomez launches kalachuchi-inspired jewelry collection

Kalachuchi, also known as the “temple flower”, is now the inspiration of the newest jewelry line by actress politician Lucy Torres-Gomez.

Gomez recalls growing up seeing and playing with the flower at her Grandmother’s home in Cebu.

“Coming from a place often ravaged by natural disasters—mainly because we are geographically vulnerable in Leyte, the kalachuchi is a beautiful reminder of how we have always managed to bounce back stronger, better,” the local executive said.

The Kalachuchi is the official flower of Ormoc City. It stands for the strength to withstand tough challenges. It is also the flower of hospitality, of welcoming guests and inviting them to stay. Modern florists often recommend the kalachuchi as a gift for someone who has endured many challenges because this plant must be heated over 500 degrees F to catch alight and start burning. Aside from a natural toughness, the delicate look of the flower makes it a symbol of grace and prosperity.

Her husband Mayor Richard Gomez of Ormoc also said kalachuci is the official flower of the town which symbolizes beauty and resilience which they said speaks of how people of Leyte are.

Lucy used aquamarine representing her birth month, mother of pearl, and diamonds in 18-karat choices of yellow, white, or rose gold.

For the Kalachuchi collection I also used the aquamarine, mainly because blue is my favorite color, reminding me of sea and sky and so many of my beautiful dreams come true.♥️ Incidentally, aquamarine is the birthstone of March, widely loved for being the stone of eternal youth and happiness. #ltgxjbdkalachuchi
