Socio-economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia reiterated that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will largely benefit in the government’s plan to collaborate with China for Duterte administration’s infrastructure projects.
“We really need to try to lure our OFWs because there will be a lot of employment for them available especially starting next year when many of these flagship projects will be breaking ground,” said Pernia, who is also the Director-General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
NEDA said the government currently targets to collaborate with China in 15 infrastructure projects, which collectively worth $6.96 billion (P355.92 billion; Dh25.56 billion).
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III previously said the “Build, Build, Build” program could demand up to 12 million workers in the manufacturing and construction sectors, including carpenters, welders, plumbers, and electricians.
