15-year-old sprinter wins PH’s 5th gold ASEAN Para Games

Teen sprinter Cielo Honasan bolted her way to the gold medal, finishing first in the women’s 200-M T44 event in the 9th ASEAN Para Games held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia on Tuesday, September 19.

The Zambales native clocked in at 28.51 seconds, dashing past Indonesia’s Evi Tirani and Vietnam’s Nguyen Thu Thuy.

Honasan, 15, whose left leg is shorter than her right due to polio, delivered the country’s second gold.

She is targeting to claim two more golds in the 100m event on Wednesday and 400m sprint on Thursday.

Javelin thrower Cendy Asusano gave the Philippines its first gold on Monday while Christopher Chiu Yue and Agustin Kitan also swept gold medals in mixed tenpin bowling and men’s powerlifting event respectively.

Filipino jiu jitsu athletes Margarita Ochoa and Annie Ramirez delivered two more golds, bringing the country’s gold medal count to five.

As of writing, the Philippines has a 5-6-4 gold, silver, bronze medal output.
