The Filipino man who attacked a member of the Dubai Police who tried to arrest him for stealing a lost phone in a restroom of a mall was sentenced to six months in jail to be followed by immediate deportation.

The police explained before the Dubai Court of First Instance that the 31-year old salesman took the phone left behind by one of the shoppers. When he asked the salesman to return it to its rightful owner, the latter refused.

The salesman pushed the cop who fell to the ground and sustained injuries.

During interrogation, the salesman admitted to taking the phone and bringing it home to his place. Dubai Police later on searched the salesman’s home where the phone was eventually found.

The ruling is still subject to appeal.
