Abu Dhabi Police warn Filipinos of new speed limit starting today

Filipino motorists have to be more cautious of their driving as Abu Dhabi Police implement amended speed limit in the Capital starting today, August 12.

On different roads, the police force has reset radars as per the amended speeds, which means motorists will be penalized for even one kilometer over the specified speed limit.

New speed limit signs have been installed, and the Abu Dhabi Police launched extensive awareness campaigns among the public to educate them about the new speed limits as well as the removal of buffer speeds on the internal and external roads in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Police said that the decision was being implemented on based on research on how to attain the highest levels of traffic safety and ease traffic congestion.

Before, a driver can travel at 140 km/h in a 120 km/h zone and at 120 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, but, starting today, speed cameras will catch him if he exceeds the prescribed speed limits in those zones.

Prior to the implementation, the Abu Dhabi Police also called on motorists to respect the new speed ruling and launched a comprehensive campaign to make the public aware of changes in speed limits and the removal of the 20km buffer.

They have even released advisories in Filipino.


As per the new amended rule, drivers who will be caught speeding even 1km over the new limit of 120 km/h will face a fine worth Dh1,000.
