A domestic helper who had recently returned to the Philippines from Dubai died after an alleged abortion procedure in a motel in Quiapo, Manila.
Case investigator of Manila Police District said the OFW booked an appointment scheduled on July 10 with the 57-year-old suspect Luzviminda Tibay for the abortion procedure.
On the day of the procedure, the OFW checked in at Hotel 99 around 1 in the afternoon with a companion, Catherine San Jose, and proceeded with the procedure later that day.
The following day, San Jose decided to leave the room to buy lunch. Upon her return, however, Sotelo was not responding when asked to open the door.
San Jose called for help of the staff of the motel where they discovered the unconscious body of the OFW lying on the floor while bleeding from her genitals.
Sotelo was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Center where the OFW was pronounced dead-on-arrival after suffering from septic shock due to induced abortion.
Tibay was later apprehended in a follow-up operation where it was discovered that the OFW, who only arrived in the country three days before the abortion, paid Php10,000 for the procedure.
The alleged abortionist will face charges for intentional abortion.
