Overseas voter registration reaches 1.6M mark

The total number of overseas voters for the 2019 national elections has reached an all-time high of 1.6 million, data from the Department of Foreign Affairs Overseas Voting Secretariat (DFA-OVS) showed.

There are now 1,600,746 overseas voters for the 2019 polls, an increase of 16.3 percent from 1,376,067 voters recorded during the 2016 Presidential Elections.

With the current rate of registration, the DFA-OVS said they are confident that there will reach 1.9 million overseas voters by the end of the registration period on September 20, 2018.

Registration began on December 1, 2016.

“This is once again evidence of the hard-work and dedication of the men and women of our Foreign Service who are encouraging more overseas Filipinos to exercise their right to suffrage and civic duty in this on- going electoral exercise. Our media partners, bloggers and other OV stakeholders are also playing an important role in creating awareness among our kababayans,” Undersecretary Luis Montales, DFA-OVS chairman, said on Friday, May 11.

Under the law, all Filipino citizens who are and will be abroad from April 13 to May 13 2019 and who are at least 18 years old on May 13, 2019, not disqualified by law to vote, may register as overseas voters at the nearest Philippine Foreign Service Posts and other designated locations, including three Manila Economic Cultural Offices in Taiwan.
