The Department of Labor and Employment has lifted the suspension on deploying Filipino workers to Qatar after finding the situation in the Gulf region as back to normal.
“This decision was arrived at on the advice of Foreign Affairs Secretary Allan Peter Cayetano and upon the recommendation of Qatar POLO following their assessment of the situation in the gulf state,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in the statement.
On June 6, DOLE issued the deployment suspension after seven Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt, severed diplomatic ties with Qatar for the latter’s alleged support for terrorism and extremism.
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) with pending applications for jobs in Qatar were affected by the suspension.
The DOLE statement added that the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration is coordinating with the Qatari government to ensure the safety of Filipinos in Qatar.
