Seven displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have received livelihood package from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Former OFWs Arnel Briones of Mankayan, Benguet and Eliza Macwes of Tuba were offered a sari-sari store, while Oliver Basitan of Baguio City and Mylyn Guevarra of Bakakeng received a backyard hog raising package and a home-made baked products livelihood, respectively.
OWWA granted an oyster mushroom production livelihood to Cristina Calatan from Lower Dagsian and a sayote production business to Jordan Cardenas of Sto. Tomas Proper.
The award seeks to provide immediate relief to the former OFWs, according to Sunstar.com.
The grant supports Republic Act 8042 of the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act of 1995 that seeks to boost the welfare of migrant workers and their families.
OWWA administrator Hand Leo Cacdac said the agency’s livelihood program provides financial assistance and scholarships for family members of OFWs.
Evelyn Laranang, acting director at OWWA-Cordillera, said the administration offers a P60,000 financial assistance to qualified dependents of active OWWA members under the Education for Development Scholarship Program.
