DUBAI: A Filipino expat in the UAE was among the top 50 global educators, who were lauded for their unique teaching techniques and ability to motivate students to excel academically.
Dr. Rommel Pilapil Sergio, chair and associate professor of Human Resource Management Program at the Canadian University Dubai, was one of the first recipients, honored at the inaugural 2016 Oxford Journal Top Global Educators Award held recently at the University of Cambridge, reported Khaleej Times.
The Top 50 Global Educators in Business Award “recognizes outstanding professors who demonstrate dedication to the success of their students, both inside and outside of the classroom,” the report said.
“Facilitated by a pool of academic and research experts in the US, UK, and Asia, it is indeed an honor for a faculty like me to be recognized as one of the top global educators,” Sergio was quoted as saying in the report.
“From thousands of esteemed professors around the world, only 100 were shortlisted and 50 were finally selected. This citation motivates me to go the extra mile in teaching and in research. I will continue to innovate my classroom techniques and be active in research,” he added.
Sergio reportedly presented his unique teaching techniques through documented class cases, simulations, learners’ immersion through plant visits, student conference attendance and publication; among other teaching tools in business management.
His two papers will be published soon in The Oxford Journal whose editorial board include faculty members from Harvard University, London School of Economics, Columbia University, University of Melbourne, and the National University of Singapore, said the Dubai-based news portal.
Sergio has more than 15 years of teaching experience in the areas of human resource management and organizational psychology.
He earned two doctoral degrees: PhD in Human Resource Management from Liverpool University and PhD in Psychology from De La Salle University, Philippines.
He also has post-doctoral bridge to Business in Management and Marketing Education conferred by Tulane University in New Orleans.
Other awardees are from University of South Carolina, University of Notre Dame, Saginaw Valley State University, University of Texas, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Westminster, and Afyon Kocatepe University in Turkey, reported Khaleej Times.
