Today, March 25th, the world will hold the annual Earth Hour starting at 8:30 pm marking the 10th year of the event.
Much like in other countries, the United Arab Emirates regularly participates in the massive organized event.
This year, both private and public entities in the country have been urged to join Emirates Wildlife Society-WWF (EWS-WWF) who takes care of the series of events across the country in light of Earth Hour.
World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Nature’s Earth Hour was first celebrated in Sydney Australia back in 2007 with 2.2 million people participating. And over the course of the years, it has become a global phenomenon which almost all countries participate in.
Today, almost 7000 cities and tens of millions of people worldwide will power down on Saturday night in an effort to promulgate the cause. Since it debuted, the WWF’s for Earth Hour has been a way to shed a light and eventual appropriate measures to address the growing concerns about climate change and our environmental impact on the planet.
The organization urges everyone worldwide to show their support to #EarthHourUAE by switching off unnecessary lights at 8.30pm on the 25th.
Furthermore, the EWS-WWF will also be leading its ‘Green Goals’ campaign. Using the hashtag #EarthHourUAE social media users will be asked to post their personal pledges in helping the world transition to a more sustainable lifestyle.
