President Rodrigo Duterte is eyeing to Nur Misuari, founder of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), as “emissary” for the United Arab Emirates.
Defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Wednesday said that Duterte is considering to appoint Misuari to the post following the latter’s visit in Malacanang on Monday, February 25.
Duterte and Misuari also talked about the the latter’s trip to the UAE and Morocco.
“It seems that he will be appointed as an emissary since we have events, issues there where he can be of help,” Lorenzana said.
Misuari left the country on Tuesday, February 26, to travel to Abu Dhabi to attend the 48th Session of the Organization of Islamic Conference-Council of Foreign Ministers from March 1 to 2, 2019.
Misuari needed the approval of the Sandiganbayan to be able to leave the country as he faces cases of graft and malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents.
The case pertains to the alleged anomalous procurement of textbooks when he was ARMM governor.
He posted a PHP920,000 travel bond after the court granted his motion to travel.
