A Filipina domestic worker who initially reported being mugged by three men in Macau to police last Friday was arrested after the police authorities found out that it was a fake robbery.
The 36-year-old said she lost $1,311 (Dh4815.30) while gambling at a casino in Macau.
According to an Asia Times report, the domestic worker initially reported to police last Friday that she was mugged by three men in Macau. However, the authorities suspected that her claims were fabricated after her conflicting statements. When pressed, she admitted to making up the story.
The woman told police that she faked the report due to fears of admonishment from her family in the Philippines, the intended recipient of the money she lost while gambling.
