Good news for women empowerment in the UAE

Educated Emirati fathers are said to have high career hopes for their female children.

This was based on a study by UAE university researchers published in the International Journal of Manpower, reported The National.

A father’s education was linked to his gravitation towards wanting his daughter to have a “high-powered career,” the report said.

The UAE government says it is “focused on educating both men and women,” with literacy rates for both genders at nearly 90%.

The study could help in policy-making, said Dr Emilie Rutledge, associate professor at the UAE University College of Business and Economics.

“Encouraging more males to undertake tertiary education and continuing with the policy of subsidizing the employment costs of nationals will pay longer-term dividends in terms of female labor force participation,” she was quoted as saying.
